Downloading YouTube Playlists on Android
Where downloaded files actually land on Android, how to keep playlist order in mobile players, and how to manage storage on a phone.

Android is the easiest mobile platform for this, because the file system is genuinely accessible. Downloads land in the Download folder by default, the Files app can move them anywhere, and most media players will happily read from any directory you point them at.
Start with Chrome or Samsung Internet. Both handle multiple sequential downloads without complaint, and both show a persistent notification you can pull down to watch progress. If you are downloading many files, keep the browser in the foreground for the first few — some aggressive battery optimisation settings will throttle background downloads on a locked screen.
Storage is the real constraint on a phone. Video is expensive: a two-hour 1080p documentary can be three gigabytes, which is a meaningful chunk of a 128 GB device that is already full of photos. For anything you only listen to, audio-only output is not a compromise but the correct choice — the same content at 128 kbps is around a hundred megabytes.
If your device has an SD card, move completed batches there rather than downloading directly to it. Direct-to-card writes are slower and more likely to be interrupted, whereas moving a finished folder is a single fast operation.
Playlist order needs the same treatment as on desktop. Android media players sort alphabetically within a folder, so a two-digit numeric prefix on each filename is what keeps a lecture series or an album in sequence. Without it, track 10 sorts before track 2 and your set is shuffled permanently.
For music specifically, put each set in its own folder and drop the cover image in as folder.jpg. Most Android players — including the stock ones on Samsung and Pixel devices — pick that up automatically and display the artwork without any tagging work.
One practical warning: avoid downloading a large batch on mobile data unless you have checked what it costs. A hundred-video HD playlist can exceed fifteen gigabytes, which is an entire month's allowance on many plans. Connect to Wi-Fi, plug the phone in, and let it work.
